Associate Pastor Search: Fairlawn Baptist (Parkersburg)

Fairlawn Baptist Church in Parkersburg, West Virginia, is prayerfully seeking an associate pastor.

Fairlawn Baptist Church is located at 215 Fairlawn Dr in Parkersburg, WV. The church is an active member of the Pioneer Baptist Association and the West Virginia Convention of Southern Baptists.

Position Summary:
The Associate Pastor will share in the responsibility for helping students and families develop as disciples of Christ at Fairlawn Baptist Church. Special attention will be given to the development, evaluation, and growth of the Youth Ministry (grades 6–12). He shall be an active member of the church, serving it faithfully. This person will be responsible for the development (pastoral care, recruiting, scheduling, training) of family involvement in youth activities, meetings, and Bible studies.

Personal Qualifications:

  • Display high Christian character according to 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

  • Have a vocational call to pastoral ministry.

  • Possess strong communication and leadership skills.

  • Have a humble and teachable spirit.

  • Be a team player with good interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrate a desire for personal spiritual growth through ongoing reading and continuing education.

Position Requirements:
The Associate Pastor will seek to honor the Lord in all they do and should possess the following:

  • Growth in personal discipleship with Christ by regularly attending church services and Bible studies at Fairlawn Baptist Church.

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (seminary degree preferred).

  • Experience in youth ministry is preferred.

  • The ability to communicate with and inspire a team of youth volunteers, and ensure all volunteers have a current background check.

  • The qualities and characteristics required of Fairlawn Baptist Church employees, as defined by the Personnel Handbook.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a thriving Youth Ministry within Fairlawn Baptist Church.

  • Lead youth Bible studies twice weekly and arrange for coverage in his absence.

  • Teach biblically accurate and culturally relevant sermons and Bible studies that promote the spiritual development of youth and families.

  • Contribute to the planning and execution of weekly youth meetings.

  • Recruit, train, and oversee volunteer ministry leaders to staff weekly gatherings, Bible studies, and other special ministry events. These may include, but are not limited to, small-group Bible studies, weekly worship services, youth conferences and retreats, summer camp, Vacation Bible School, mission projects, or other special events.

  • Provide consistent communication with parents, volunteers, and students regarding plans and opportunities to serve within the Youth Ministry of the church.

  • Maintain an active community presence by scheduling time for visits with students and families at various community and school functions.

  • Develop and maintain an annual budget for the Youth Ministry.

Other Ministry Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Senior Pastor with pastoral duties such as visitations, baptisms, funerals, and weddings.

  • Preach in the absence of the Senior Pastor, or as requested.

  • Participate in monthly deacon meetings and quarterly church council meetings.

  • Plan and lead a chapel service for Fairlawn Christian Academy once a month.

  • Assist the Senior Pastor with other ministerial duties as assigned.

Work Hours:
The Associate Pastor position will be a full-time, 40-hour-per-week role. Compensation will be determined at the time of employment, based on education and experience.

Adequate time shall be given for preparation in the office, as well as for community and family engagement opportunities outside the church office. Office hours will be defined in partnership with the Senior Pastor and Personnel Committee as needed to accomplish ministry responsibilities.

Supervision:
The Associate Pastor’s immediate supervisor is the Senior Pastor. He shall establish and maintain a good-spirited working relationship with the Senior Pastor, other staff, and the church body. The Associate Pastor will undergo annual evaluations facilitated by the Senior Pastor.

Compensation:
Annual salary of $40,000–$45,000, based on experience and education.
