West Virginia Southern Baptist Disaster Relief teams, joined by crews from North Carolina, South Carolina and Ohio, are serving communities affected by the severe storms, flooding and tornadoes that struck the state July 21-22.
Teams are working in Buckhannon, Weston and Pleasants County, providing damage assessment, debris removal, flood recovery and other immediate assistance.

The storms damaged homes, businesses, roads and bridges across several counties. Some of the most significant flooding occurred in Upshur and Lewis counties, while tornadoes and damaging winds caused extensive destruction in Pleasants County.
New Life Southern Baptist Church in Weston is among those directly affected. Several feet of water and mud entered the church’s sanctuary, fellowship hall and ministry areas, causing extensive damage. Southern Baptist Disaster Relief teams and area churches are working alongside the congregation while also caring for families throughout the surrounding communities.
“The needs are significant, but Disaster Relief volunteers and local churches are already stepping into some of the hardest places with practical help and the hope of Christ,” Polmanteer said. “We are grateful for every team serving alongside us and for the generosity of the churches and individuals who are praying, giving and going. Together, we want to help these families take their next steps toward recovery.”
